Striking City Centre piece
A large bespoke spiral staircase measuring 4.5 metres in diameter and reaching 12 metres tall, serves three floors of this high end retail outlet in Leeds. Working to a very short lead time CT Glass supplied 49 flat panels of 19mm low iron glass shapes, with polished edges and radius corners. On the staircase the vertical glass in-fill panels were individually fitted to each tread, spanning a height from the basement to the first floor.
The project had very tight tolerances, with the layout of the staircase requiring each tread to be precisely lined up with the one below to enable the full height balustrading to be fixed perfectly vertical. The balustrade was then finished with a hand crafter curved satin polished stainless steel tube handrail. The spiral staircase was finished with timber treads and landings, anti-slip inserts and a painted white underside and central column. Complementing the staircase, the surrounding landing balustrade on both the ground and first floor, was fitted with low iron glass and a matching stainless steel finished top plate.
